Frequently asked questions
Are the colours historically accurate?
They are the AI’s best guess from millions of photos: skin, sky and plants are usually convincing, clothes and cars may differ from the original colours.
Can I colourise a photo that is already in colour?
It works best on black-and-white or faded sepia photos.
Is my image stored?
No. It is sent over an encrypted connection to the AI provider shown on this page, processed, and the result is sent straight back to you. Nothing is kept on our server; metadata such as GPS location is removed before sending.
Is there a limit?
Yes, a small number of free AI requests per day keeps the service fast for everyone. Requests that fail are not counted.
